The Dendera Zodiac, an elaborate bas-relief sculpted
on a twelve-inch stone disc, was found on the ceiling of a chapel in the Temple
of Hathor at Dendera in central Egypt. This artefact revealed how the twelve
months of the Ancient Egyptian year were presided over by a particular god,
goddess or mythical creature – creating a system of ‘natal signs’ similar to
