Karen DePolito
 |
 |
Karen DePolito has been practicing Ceremonial Magick and Wicca since 1986 (and someday hopes to get it right.) She is the surviving spouse and magickal partner of Jerome Birnbaum; together they ran Temple of the Eternal Light – an omni-denominational spiritual fellowship in New York City – for fifteen years.
Karen grew up in Connecticut, and worked as a radio journalist in New York State before her interest in magick led her to Jerome and the Temple. When Jerome retired from teaching, he and Karen travelled around the United States, finally settling in Utah, where Jerome died in 2005.
Later, on his behalf, Karen and other Pagans successfully sued the Department of Veterans Affairs to include the Wiccan pentacle on its list of religious symbols for veterans’ grave markers.
Karen is an ordained deacon in the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica (Gnostic Catholic Church) and is active in NOX Oasis, the Ogden, Utah body of Ordo Templi Orientis. For two years she worked as media supervisor for Ogden Pagan Pride Day.
Her articles have appeared in Circle magazine and the U.K. Pagan publication Gates of Annwn, as well as Points of Light, Temple of the Eternal Light’s monthly newsletter.
Karen shares a house with a cat named Azaril. In her off-time, she makes her own liqueurs, and occasionally lectures on candle magick and the Wiccan Sabbats.
