Caroline Barnard-Smith

Twenty-six year old Caroline Barnard-Smith has been writing stories since she was five years old. Having graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a bachelor's degree in English Literature, she now lives in Devon, England with her husband where she writes about ruthless vampires, lovelorn zombies and heinous blood cults.

Her short stories have been published in numerous small press magazines, including Ballista, Hungur and Night to Dawn, and on the web at Dark Fire Fiction. A novella called The Undead Alliance was recently featured in Twisted Tongue Magazine.

Caroline has no idea where her disturbing plots come from, but suspects it has something to do with all the Roald Dahl books she read as a child. When she’s not writing, Caroline can normally be found wasting time on the internet, or enjoying a bad horror movie.

Caroline’s favourite city is Prague, a place which is no doubt crawling with vampires. The gothic architecture (and the beer for breakfast!) is a rich source of dark inspiration. Other (wildly varied, but all essential) inspirations include J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, Poppy Z. Brite, Margaret Atwood, the Bronte Sisters, and really loud, female-fronted metal bands.

Caroline describes her work as “Romeo and Juliet with black eyeliner and fangs”.
